Murphysboro Middle School is home to the MMS band program and its performing ensembles. Unique to the program are the many performing opportunities available to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. If deemed ready by their individual instructor, exceptional 5th grade beginning band students are given the opportunity to be part of the program. Students may participate in the following ensembles:
In addition to the many performing opportunities offered at MMS, all band students are required to take weekly lessons and participate in a sectional once a week. Sectionals are on a rotating basis to insure that students keep up in their academic classes. All lessons are during exploratory class time.
The bands of Murphysboro Middle School were created to support the musical needs for the city of Murphysboro, Illinois. They strive to provide students: a fundamentally sound music education; experiences of quality musical performances; and an appreciation for their school. The bands will serve the community through concerts, special events, and at home sporting events.
The 2007-2008 MMS Band is made up of 65 woodwind, brass, and percussion members. They are led by their director, Nicholas Williams.
