Jazz Ensemble
The Murphysboro Middle School Jazz Ensemble is the extra-curricular performing ensemble at MMS. It is also the elite-performing ensemble on campus. Students who wish to participate in Jazz Ensemble must go through a two-day tryout in September. Those students who make it through the audition process rehearse twice a week after school, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The MMS Jazz Ensemble performs community concerts each winter and spring, participates in Solo and Ensemble Contest, and performs along side professional jazz musicians from the area at the annual Steak & Jazz fundraiser, held in conjunction with the Sesser High School and Murphysboro High School Jazz Bands. The MMS Jazz Ensemble also performs along with the Symphonic Band on the spring trip, and participates in an elementary recruiting tour with the Murphysboro High School Jazz Band. Rehearsals are required every Tuesday and Thursday, after school, 3:20-4:00 PM.
