Re: Organizational Contest, Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Dear Parents,

On Saturday, April 5th, the MMS Symphonic Band will be participating in the annual Organizational contest at Marion Jr. High School in Marion, Illinois. Students have been working very hard towards this and I expect all to do well. Our performance time is   1:00 PM and ALL parents are encouraged to attend.  All students will be required to ride the bus to the contest. Students can ride home with parents with advance written notice. Concert attire is as follows:

Concert Dress:

Gentlemen: Plain button-down white dress shirt or top, black pants, black belt, black shoes, and black socks.
Ladies: Black evening wear; black dress, skirt, or pant suit, black socks, black
shoes. Nothing white or any other color except black. All ladies must WEAR ALL BLACK!!!

The following itinerary will be followed for Organizational Contest on April 5th:

10:30 AM - Students arrive at the MMS band room in Concert Dress.
10:45 AM - Warm-up
11:00 AM - Load buses (Same bus assignments as Solo and Ensemble)
11:15 AM - Buses leave for Marion (All students are required to ride the bus)
11:45 AM - Buses arrive at Marion Jr. High, students will unload.

1:00 PM - Band performs brilliantly.
1:50 PM - Load the equipment and buses.
2:00 PM - Buses leave to return to Murphysboro.
2:30 PM  - Approximate return time to MMS.

All students that have not given prior written notification will be required to ride the bus!!

There will be an area at the competition site for students to leave their coats, instrument cases, and to warm-up. It will be open to the public and will not be secured. Students are not forbidden to bring personal items (CD players, portable DVD players, phones, wallets, purses, or any other personal items), however they will be responsible for these items, not Mr. Williams and not the Marion school district

*Please remember that on Friday, April 4th, we DO NOT have school due to a teacher institute day. Band students must not forget that contest is the next day. This is a REQUIRED PERFORMANCE and one of our biggest this year. Failure to show (any Unexcused Absence) will result in the student receiving an F in band for Term 4.

I am looking forward to a very successful and rewarding day at Marion this year. All of you are encouraged to come and support your child during their performance. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thank You,
